Banking with a Difference

20% of the UK's wealth (approximately £794 billlion is owned by the top 1% of the UK population, compared to 50% of the population that shares just 7%. There are an estimated 8 million people excluded from mainstream credit and some 40% of households lack any form of savings at all.  Having a bank account is a pre-requisite for getting a permanent job or facilities such as direct debits. Therefore those social excluded and most vulnerable pay more for their basis services.  Between 1999 and 2003, banks in the UK closed 3,000 branches in the poorest communities in Britain.

The organisations that form part of the Social Finance sector are those financial institutions that have a mission to tackle marginalisation, social injustice and exclusion and facilitate social change through investment.
