investments that inspire

What on earth are we doing?

Today the UK economy shrunk by 0.5%. George Osborne has blamed the snow and is sticking to his guns saying "There is no question of changing a fiscal plan that has established international credibility on the back of one very cold month".   There is an overwhelming response from analysts worrying about such a slump even before the cuts and fiscal tightening begins.
We are in trouble and we don't have a Plan B.  It is at times like this when the inability of our great minds to think outside the box and step outside their familiar ideology makes me despair.  They seem to rush from the lofty hights of theoretical economic models to purile trivialisation without a single stop at common sense.
And please let's join some dots and make some connections. Money is pouring out of our economy through tax avoidance,  the payment of bonuses from revenues rather than profits as well as public sector borrowing.  Our economy is unbalanced, unfair and unstable.  George Osborne's plan may have international credibility but it needs to have credibility here in the UK and not just with the 1.1% of the population who earn more than £150k per year.
